From Moscow – By Train
Trains only go as far as Vladimir (Journey time: 2 – 4 hours depending on train type). From Vladimir it is necessary to transfer to a local bus to Suzdal (Journey time: 45 mins – 1 hour). There are three types of trains that go to Vladimir; Sapsan (high Speed train), long distance trains and electrichki (slow commuter trains). A full timetable of trains is listed below.
All trains go from Kursky Train Station (Kurskaya Metro Station – Brown Line). Please note Electrichki trains leave from a separate part of Kursky Station. On the right hand side of the station when facing the station.
Kursky Train Station is easy to get to and on three Metro Lines (Brown, Dark Blue & Lime Green). If you are travelling from our Moscow hostel it is only two stops on the Lime Green Line (Metro Trubnaya (hostel) – Metro Chkalovskaya (Kurskaya).
Sapsan
This is the newest and fastest way to get to Vladimir. Trains are very comfortable with a hostess and food and drinks available. Sapsan trains go twice a day. Keep in mind that Vladimir is on the Moscow – Nizgny Novgorod Route. So look for trains coming or going from Nizhny Novgorod.
Long Distance Trains
Vladimir is a stop on the route of many regular long distance trains. This is a good way to get to Vladimir (or return to Moscow) as trains are comfortable and prices are reasonable. There is a wide selection of trains so travel times are more flexible.
Electrichki Trains
Electrichki are commuter trains. They are often crowded and not very comfortable (wooden seats and no toilets). Frequency is also limited but if you are on a budget these offer the best value. Tickets can only be bought on the day of travel. Arrive at least 20 minutes beforehand. Queues can be long and hectic. Tickets cost 220 rubles (as of 2010). Look for the train with ВЛАДИМИР on it. Remember to keep your ticket as you will be checked along the way and upon exiting the train.
Journey Time: 3 1/2 hours. Be prepared it stops everywhere. Vladimir is the last stop.

Л – luxury compartment;
К – 2nd class (4-bed compartment with a door), usually more expensive than 3rd class, sometimes include a meal; cheaper seats are top bunks at the back or head of the train carriage;
П – 3rd class (4-bed compartment or 2-bed side compartment without any doors);
С – just a seat (no bed)
Express Bus Moscow – Vladimir
Go to Kursky Station (Kurskaya Metro Station). Buses leave from outside the northern end of the train station. Buses leave every half hour to Vladimir (ВЛАДИМИР) train station. If you are confused please ask other passengers for the bus. The cost of the journey is 200 rubles.
The journey takes between 2 ½ – 4 hours. The bus stops once for a break halfway through the journey. But do not wander far as the driver leave without you. TIP – It is always best to leave before noon to guarantee a quicker trip.
Local Bus Vladimir - Suzdal
Local buses leave from the bus station opposite the train station exit. You need a ticket before you board the bus. Buses to Suzdal (CУЗДАЛь) leave every half hour. Go outside and wait for your bus (normally platform 10). On your ticket will be bus departure time and your seat number. If your seat number is 0 then you have to stand!
Journey Time: 45 mins – 1 hour
Upon arrival in Suzdal the bus first stops at the Bus Station (Outside of town). Stay on board as you need the next stop in town. You will need to pay an additional 8 Rubles for this leg of the journey. The bus will then stop in the centre of town (Ul. Lenina). Get off here and walk to the Trade Centre (TOPГОВЫЙ ЦЕНTP). The journey from bus station to the centre of town takes only a few minutes.
